A quintessential part of the Scottish mountain landscape is the bothy. Spread across Scotland (and also with some in Wales and England), the bothy has provided respite for the weary hike, mountain-biker, climber etc for many years. Bothies are little huts, usually old shephard huts, but sometimes old youth hostels, hotels or private houses. They are free to stay at and their upkeep is tended to by the Mountain Bothy Association. The MBA is a great charity and the funding for upkeep comes entirely from memberships.
Above is a short film I made whilst touring around different bothies in Scotland. Have a look at the MBA website, and especially their map section, to explore some of the amazing locations you can stay in!
